What Do We Think?
No matter what tone you’re looking to cover, there’s a good chance this Ash body tonal chameleon has got you covered! Taking Fender’s Nashville Tele one step further, this one puts a Lambertones Crema in the neck position to give you access to warm but incredibly well-defined humbucking tones. A matching goldfoil-covered Blondie single in the middle and a traditional Blondie single in the bridge bring home the rest of the tones.
Starting with that bridge position, you’ll find things to be tight and articulate with a strong midrange. Definitely some extra beef here compared to your average Tele bridge. But a sweet transparency at the same time. This pickup thrives on a little bit of gain, but also blends well with the middle pickup for some nice quack.
Pulling the push/pull volume knob adds in the neck humbucker to any position. Pairing the neck with the bridge pickup, the guitar is superbly balanced and gives you that iconic middle position Tele tone but with a little added body. Paired with position two (adding the humbucker to both single coils) shifts the midrange vowel down a bit and gives you more cluck than quack.
That sound like a lot of options? We’ve still got three more for you! Middle pickup alone is bold and spanky. Looking to blend middle and neck? You have two varieties; switching to position 4 on the switch gives you middle alongside a coil-split version of the neck pickup. Think of it as a very polite Strat tone. Staying in position 3 and engaging the push/pull gives you the both coils of the humbucker alongside the middle pickup. Big and bloomy.
The baked flame maple neck definitively adds focus to the tonal mix, taming unwanted low end frequencies and allowing the top end to have just enough shimmer before tapering off some of the “ice pick” that can be present on many Tele-inspired builds. And it’s darn pretty too.
How Does It Play?
This guitar sets up effortlessly, with string action measuring just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E string. There is no fretbuzz. The neck is a supportive medium C, finished in clear satin over gorgeous flame maple.
