What Do We Think?
This reclaimed Redwood semi-hollow guitar is visually stunning. And sonically, the notes blossom. The Master Grade flame roasted maple neck is focused and vibrant, perfectly tailoring the sweet and rounded tones coming from the Redwood body.
Redwood is said to have tones similar to cedar, and we can definitely hear that coming through on this guitar. All of the wood and hardware choices provide a firm foundation, and adding Lambertones Grinder pickups is just icing on the cake. These are wired with a 5-way switch to offer a wide range of very usable tones.
Position 1: Bridge. Precise and harmonically-rich with plenty of body. It makes sense that Lambertone uses references to coffee with their pickups; much like with coffee there are plenty of tasting notes in this position. Some of those might be heard as a subtle bark paired with a lower midrange bump.
Position 2: Bridge/Neck in Parallel. The sweetness of this guitar really comes through here. It is mellow and spongey in the best way possible, but never lacking clarity.
Position 3: Neck. It is soulful and blooms with a very pleasant natural compression. It's big but never too much.
Position 4: Bridge and Neck single coil in parallel. Scooped out with a subtle amount of quack, awesome for some Motown and funk-inspired guitar parts.
Position 5: Bridge and Neck outer coils in series. Did this guitar just secretly turn into a Gretsch? This is a really cool setting. It'll make you want to pull out some Rockabilly or Surfy Western riffs with its clear and stringy twang.
How Does It Play?
The string action on this monster sets up nice and low without buzz. It hovers at a very comfortable 4/64” at the 12th fret. The C neck leans on the thinner side of medium, fast without feeling too modern. The Mastery Vibrato is smooth and returns to “zero” just right, ensuring the guitar stays in tune throughout frequent use of the vibrato.
