The ThinLion delivers the warmth, low end and roundness of the classic semi-hollow models players love, while maintaining the inspiration of a vintage-style slab-body electric. With the same outline and shape as our Lion Standard, the ThinLion features a semi-hollow mahogany or korina body, flame maple top, and your choice of dual humbuckers or dual P-90s—perfect for jazz and blues, of course, but heavy enough to shred hard rock and heavy metal.

What Do We Think?

Wow. Les Paul meets ES-335. In a Tele body. The low end is more controlled than your standard semi-hollow, yet the guitar bears the woody semblance of the greats in that category. In the upper registers you get a lovely chirp supported by the smoky punch more associated with a solid body. And all in a form factor that is remarkably familiar for the more Fender-leaning player.

We are very fond of the ResoMax wraparound bridge. This is a superb piece of hardware by Graphtech. It sits smooth under the hand for those of us who tend to rest on the bridge a lot. Each saddle can be intonated individually, and it facilitates plenty of string-to-body energy transfer.

This guitar carries very minimal aging or distressing. Just the finish checking you would find on an heirloom instrument played carefully and stored in the closet for a few decades. The Tobacco Burst finish is a beautifully dulled gloss, outlined by cream body binding to complete the package.

How Does It Play?

The setup work coming out of Avi’s shop is impeccable. The string action at the 12^th fret measures just 4/64” on the low E and all the way down to 3/64” on the high E. No fretbuzz. The fret ends are smooth and nicely rounded. From truss rod to nut slots, this guitar is dialed in. The neck profile is a medium C that offers nice support without slowing down the fretting hand.
