The Lynx offers a lightweight alder or swamp ash body, hand-sanded and contoured to feel right at home. Set in the body is a rock-solid Gotoh Fulcrum Bridge with a steel block to provide fat tones with no tuning issues and a great-feeling tremolo response. Its fast-playing neck profile is still meaty enough to keep the guitar alive, and the Lynx offers a variety of pickup configurations, from SSS to HSS and HSH.
What Do We Think?
This guitar has an impactful bottom end without sacrificing the spank! The Lollar Sixty-Fours are capable of producing glorious glassy tones, but are balanced throughout.
The bridge pickup is tight and vibrant. It really gives your amp some sweet upper harmonics to work with. But you’ll also find you can thicken the pickup nicely by rolling back the second tone knob. It sounds remarkably full and smooth this way through an overdriven rig.
The bridge/middle position is a little quacky but not too much so. It has a nice midrange bump that works great with the overdrive left on. And it has a sweet wah-like vowel when the bridge pickup tone is rolled back a bit. Think “Vultures” and beyond. There’s a lot of fun to be had in this position.
The neck/middle position is broad and sweeping, with less emphasis on the midrange and perhaps even a mild scoop. It is more spanky than quacky. Tight and responsive with equal weight given to the highs and lows.
The neck pickup has a nice growl to go with the aforementioned spank. It sounds great through pristine clean and gritty amps alike. It has a fairly flat response that leaves room for the focus to fall exactly where you want to place it. The bottom is punchy, the midrange gritty when dug into, and the upper register vast and shimmering.
How Does It Play?
The string action measures just a hair over 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret, and right at 4/64” on the high E. The trem is set to float, but we can set it up any way you like! There is no fretbuzz and the fret dressing is immaculate. The profile is a medium C and sits right where you expect, between slim and chunky for a familiar feel that most players find exceptionally easy to get along with.
