The perfect onstage guitar, with only one pickup, one volume knob and one tone knob, our Lion STP (Single Treble Pickup) doesn’t trip you up while playing live with too many switches, knobs, or push/pulls… but that doesn’t mean it’s limited. Roll down the volume for an array of beautiful cleans, roll it up for layers of dirt, and dial in the tone for your perfect lead or rhythm sounds.

What Do We Think?

If you’re into single pickup guitars (like us) then this one is sure to please. An alder body and bolt-on neck might seem a departure from the recipe, but let us assure you it works VERY well. And check out the weight of this beauty… just 6lb 8.8oz!

The Lollar dogear P-90 is plenty sweet to sugar up your clean channel. And one of the guitar’s greatest attributes? The tone knob remains transparent all the way down to 3 or so on the pot. Even as you roll off the top end, you retain that wonderful string definition through the midrange that will have you hooked by the first chord.

Through a more driven amp, the options open ever further with near endless combinations. Of course, rolling back the volume will dial back the gain. But now you really get to play with the relationship between the volume and tone knobs. Volume backed off with tone fully up is reminiscent of a lively Tele. Flip-flopping the settings of the two knobs will yield tones that are thick and beefy. “10” on both will deliver scorching lead tones.

This guitar really lets you hear your amp, your pick attack, your dynamic nuances. And it leaves you with the satisfied feeling that nothing is lacking in your signal chain. Sometimes less truly is more.

How Does It Play?

The neck profile is a classic medium C with a 12” fretboard radius like your favorite vintage Gibsons. Fretwork is impeccable. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E at the 12^th fret and even lower on the high E, without a hint of buzz.
