What Do We Think?

The Miris J is a wonderful design by Dennis Fano and is quickly becoming a fresh classic. For starters, it is one of the most comfortable semi-hollowbody guitars you've ever played. And with its proprietary Mastery vibrato and Lindy Fralin pickups, is is situated to cover a wide variety of tones and playing styles with immediacy and ease.

The Fralin P-90 in the bridge position is ideally suited for the guitar. The natural acoustic resonance of the instrument emphasizes both an airy top end and a big lower register thanks to the Swamp ash body. So the rich midrange and sweet top end of the P-90 allows this guitar to be clear and detailed when playing clean, or go thick and all out rock’n’roll when adding some drive. There is the perfect amount of snarl when you really dig in, and an incredible dynamic range.

The neck P-90 tones really capture the mojo of the semi-hollow body, having a lush and warm texture regardless of where you are on the fretboard. The resonance of the Mastery bridge and vibrato add a quick and precise attack that complements those overtones. Notes remain crisp, yet don't lose their woody character in the midrange. Single-note lead lines and bluesy licks are both harmonically rich and pristinely conveyed.

How Does It Play?

The medium C neck profile is temperately slim, nice and fast up and down the fretboard. Fretwork is top notch and the string action hovers right around 4/64" at the 12th fret across all strings without buzz. The body features a generous tummy cut that makes the guitar a joy to hold.
