What Do We Think? 

The Alnico Rod Hum-Cancelling P-90s open up the perfect chime in the semi-hollow Miris J. The bottom is firm and robust, while the midrange gives way to a mild scoop that “cleans up” the area where a standard P-90 can sit a little too thick. The top end opens up with a nice airiness and is naturally tapered in its extremities by the semi-hollow construction.

The neck position has a slight compression that gets good and bluesy when you dig in, while staying clear and expressive under a variety of pick (or finger) dynamics. The bridge position can deliver pristine, poignant cleans but is powerful enough to drive a good overdriven amp with ease. Again, just a touch of natural compression to fatten things up, but not the “squish” of a humbucker. The middle position has immediacy and shimmer akin to the middle position on a Tele.

And when it comes to hardware and cosmetics, this guitar is dressed to the nines. You are probably familiar with the Mastery bridge and vibrato at this point. Very nice pieces of hardware indeed. The Purple Stranger Burst finish is balanced to perfection with block inlays and binding.

How Does It Play?

The neck starts off feeling like a perfect ‘60s oval C and stays in that mold until around the 7^th fret, where it starts to fill out as a rounder C to give you something to hold on to. The string action is nice and low without buzz.
