What Do We Think?

If we were to wrap it up in one sentence, this guitar is both warm and tight. The Lollar Regals enhance the natural resonance of the semi hollow design and the guitar is harmonically-rich where it counts, but not tubby or muddy. The snappy response is surely due in part to the solid roasted ash top, and it doesn’t hurt that the 2-pc back and sides are solid swamp ash as well. The guitar weighs barely more than 6lb but gives you an expansive tonal palette to work with.

The neck pickup is punchy but delivers a full, extended low register and nice sustain. The middle position retains the big lows of the neck position but puts more sparkle in the highs. It has a sweetness to the upper midrange that can fool you for a minute into thinking you’re playing a single coil. The bridge position sounds more open than a Les Paul as point of comparison, but still delivers a meaty bite to your rhythm chords and a good snarl to your lead lines.

How Does It Play?

The Roasted Maple neck on this one is a comfortably-full medium C. Plek’d to perfection, the frets are level and beautifully polished. The neck sets up very nicely and gives you low string action of 4/64” (low E string) and 3/64” (high E) without a buzz.
