What Do We Think?

Equal parts Tele, Gretsch and barely-legal performance enhancing drug—we present the Kauer Korona loaded with TV Jones Power’Tron pickups. While this beauty may be all glitter on the outside (technically, that’s metal flake), it’s pure power and brawn underneath. And it knows how to show up and show off.

The TV Jones PowerTron in the neck position has a solid output in keeping with your standard humbucking fare, but imbued with more life in the upper register. Set your amp right and it does a pretty convincing single coil impersonation without the hum. Or roll the EQ back a touch for some warm, fat Wes Montomery-inspired octaves.

The Power’Tron Plus in the bridge ensures your bridge position has all the muscle and volume it needs to keep up with the neck. It’s got a tighter punch to the bottom than your standard humbucker and a little more bark to the midrange. Again, it will happily serve up your best Tele chops. But it is more about balance, Yin and Yang, rather than just the twang.

The middle position has, dare we say, quite the breathtaking snap. We almost want to say quack but that’s not quite it. And with that tight, snappy attack comes a beautiful and chimey upper register. You’ll die for the clean tones in this position whether strumming, double-stopping or single-note riffing.

Of particular note, the volume and tone controls work superbly to expand the voice of both your guitar and amp. The Power’Trons maintain their presence and clarity marvelously as you dial back the volume knob, allowing you to tame that edge-of-breakup amp without taking the edge out of your EQ. And conversely, the tone knob does just that… smoothing out the top end without wreaking havoc to your overall output. Not all guitars can say that!

Lastly, just 6lb 12oz and decked out in glorious Tangelo Orange Flake finish? I mean, c’mon. You really have to see it twinkle under the light. Photos don’t do it justice.

How Does It Play?

The medium C shape neck has a healthy amount of shoulder that fills out the hand nicely, without being chunky. The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12^th fret to make the guitar incredibly easy to play, all without fret buzz. Locking tuners and brass saddles complete the experience.
