What Do We Think?

First off, it’s really light at just 6lb 10oz. You immediately perceive the resonance that you want to expect out of a quality piece of swamp ash. The baked maple neck makes this guitar especially responsive and beautifully focused. Note separation is nice and clear even while the guitar has loads of warm low end available. While taking some pointers from the T-style guitar that comes out of a very notable Corona, CA factory (an influence which appears even in the name of the Korona), this guitar brings unique design, attention to detail, and boutique appointments to deliver a “larger-than-life” attitude and tone.

Bridge position: Lollar J-Street. Punchy, woody midrange. Has just as much bark as it does bite. Feels tight and compressed, lively on the top end but without the extra zing of a more traditional Tele pickup. Strong low end with nice color.

Neck position: Lollar Gold Foil. A throaty neck position tone with a percussive attack and single-coil crispness on top. Clean and bell-like with a softer touch and some headroom left in the amp, thick and swampy if you dig in. This pickup with a bit of dirt added on top will bring out every blues riff in your repertoire, but it also gives huge to depth to clean chording a jazzier styles.

Middle Position: Perhaps more Strat than Tele, reminiscent of positions 2 and 4 but with more chime and less quack. Note to note clarity is phenomenal but with loads of character and beautiful harmonics. This position has an exuberant sparkle that is well-supported underneath.

Quick note: it is extremely difficult to capture the gold flake on camera. While it may appear to be concentrated on certain parts of the guitar, the flake is in fact evenly distributed and is a really stunning touch on the whole body.

How Does It Play?

Super low, super easy. The string action at the 12th fret measures 4/64” on the low E and just over 3/64” on the high E. The frets are PLEK’d to perfection to allow that kind of setup without any buzz. The neck is a medium C profile measuring .862” at the 1st and .914” at the 12th, which is to say not too much taper that would change the feel of the neck drastically as you go up it. If you like the feel in the first position, you’re going to love it all the way up. The C shape has a healthy amount of shoulder that fills out the hand nicely without being chunky. Locking tuners and brass saddles complete the experience.
