The Banshee Express gives you the specs of the Deluxe but with a satin finish and a lower price tag. After we placed this order, Doug decided to phase out the Express model but wanted to honor the price tag of our original order. Rather than go with the open-pore finish that the Express would typically have on the back of the body and neck, Doug went ahead and did this one fully grain-filled for us to give it the smooth feel and look of the rest of the Banshee lineup. Hence, this guitar is 100% a satin finish Deluxe!

What Does Josh Think?

Raunchy and ready to rock, but with a sweet side too. Weighing safely under 7lb, this is a gunslinger’s delight. The Eastern Maple top imparts a bite and attitude that serves well to keep this guitar front and center. The Lollar Firebird pickups have a generous bottom end but an overall tight and snappy texture. The neck pickup is almost Strat-on-steroids with the tone knob all the way up. Rolled back it melds into more traditional humbucker-like territory and highlights the more woody voice of the mahogany body.

The bridge pickup has a raucous sting with the tone run wide open that sweetens when rolled back a few digits to peg some great classic rhythm tones. And the middle position sounds incredible for effects-laded sounds, finding its way through heavy ‘verbs and delays with an uncompromised chirp on the front of each note. My personal favorite combination? Middle with the bridge pickup volume rolled back slightly. The tone just gets wonderfully “chewy” and delicious.

How Does It Play?

This one hovers right at 4/64” at the 12^th fret without any buzz. Doug PLEKs the necks on his guitars and the results are undeniable. The neck profile leans on the vintage side, filling out the hand with a mildly voluptuous C that will keep you coming back for more.
