The Banshee Express gives you the specs of the Deluxe but with a satin finish, natural body binding, and a lower price tag. The Eastern Maple top imparts a bite and tightness that pairs especially well with humbucking pickups, and the set neck gets the string resonance transferring right through the body and into your chest before you even plug in. The mahogany body lacks nothing on the bottom either, so you get one incredibly broad but defined tonal spectrum at your disposal. And if this isn’t exactly the Banshee you are looking for, feel free to contact us for a custom order to spec one out exactly to your liking!
What Do We Think?
This guitar is old school rock ‘n’ roll. We’re not just referring to the obvious aspect of appearance. Let’s talk tone and substance. The Wolfetone KauerBucker pickup set uses a slightly overwound bridge pickup and a more PAF-natured neck pickup to harness the ample midrange of the mahogany with authority and enunciation. The satin/open pore finish plays a big role in the tones here, too. The body resonance is crisp and dry, with a woody bark at its heart. The tones of the guitar beg comparison to another assertively-shaped instrument wielded by the likes of Angus Young and Pete Townshend. The guitar preserves its clout and clarity under all manners of pedal or amp-infused drives, from moderate to modern, without breaking a sweat.
How Does It Play?
Incredible. Doug PLEKs the necks on his guitars and the results are undeniable. We are truly impressed with the fretwork on the Kauers every time. This one sets up with action of 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and under that on the high E, without a hint of buzz. The neck profile leans on the vintage side, filling out the hand with a mildly voluptuous C that will keep you coming back for more. The open pore finish is perfect for players who find a gloss neck to get a little sticky. This one will just get faster the longer you play.
