The Kauer Banshee Deluxe retains the same neck thru construction that makes the Banshee so unique, but adds a maple top for a distinct sonic flavor. Measuring ¼” thick in the middle and 1/8” on the wings, it imparts a bite and tightness not heard in the standard Banshee and pairs especially well with humbucking pickups. Nonetheless, the body maintains the thin dimensions, comfortable contours and lively response of its namesake. What Do We Think?

There’s nothing plain about this “plain top” Banshee Deluxe! Doug picked out an amazing piece of maple for the top, and the Lemon Burst finish has just the perfect insinuation of burst without concealing any of the figure in the wood. The sustain on this guitar is extraordinary. Plugged in or not, it grabs onto every note you play. The low end is powerful and tight. The upper mids pack a welcome punch and the high end is crisp and defined as you stack your drives or crank your amp. For those familiar with the Wolfetone lineup, the Kauerbucker bridge pickup is wound slightly hotter than the Legend and the neck pickup is slightly underwound to keep the mids nice and open in the mahogany body. They utilize fully-charged Alnico II magnets for a tone that is vintage at heart but just the right amount of hot (especially on the bridge pickup).

How Does It Play?

This is a very graceful instrument to play, but still has the muscle to get your rock ‘n’ roll mojo flowing. The frets are PLEK’d, polished and dressed beautifully. The string action is just 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and well under that on the high E, without any buzz. The symmetrical C neck profile leans towards a vintage 50s Gibson C, yet fits in the hand with ease.
