The Kauer Banshee Deluxe retains the same neck thru construction that makes the Banshee so unique, but adds a maple top for a distinct sonic flavor. Measuring ¼” thick in the middle and 1/8” on the wings, it imparts a bite and tightness not heard in the standard Banshee and pairs especially well with humbucking pickups. Nonetheless, the body maintains the thin dimensions, comfortable contours and lively response of its namesake. For tonal comparison, this one is a little more open and airy than the one in the video, due in part to the absence of the nickel pickup covers in favor of thin foil covers.

What Do We Think?

There is no denying this is a superbly breathtaking instrument. But thankfully, the knockout punch doesn’t end with the visuals of the guitar. The body is phenomenally resonant and a good strum will have it moving against your chest before you even plug in. From a tonal standpoint, the maple top tightens up the Wolfetone KauerBuckers to perfection.

For those familiar with the Wolfetone lineup, the KauerBucker bridge pickup is wound slightly hotter than the Legend and the neck pickup is slightly underwound to keep the mids nice and open in the mahogany body. They utilize fully-charged Alnico II magnets for a tone that is vintage at heart but just the right amount of hot (especially on the bridge pickup). On this particular guitar the pickups have a light foil cover instead of nickel pickup covers, giving them a sweeter, more open and airy tone.

How Does It Play?

Doug Kauer has done it once again! The PLEK’d neck just plays perfectly with string action of 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and 3/64” on the high E without buzz. The medium C neck profile is fast and comfortable but leaves plenty to hold onto. The player experience on this instrument is truly unbeatable.
