What's the deal with refurbished?
This instrument is stamped "used" on the back of the headstock and given a new serial number by the manufacturer-authorized refurbisher. Why? It was deemed to have a cosmetic imperfection or to need a repair. Check the description to see exactly why this instrument is considered refurbished. We scrutinize every instrument and pass along all information from the refurbisher so that you know exactly what you are getting. These are like new with little or zero play wear!
Features of the Pro SL2P MAH include a resonant mahogany body with a poplar burl top and a one-piece through-body maple neck. Graphite reinforcement rods provide the neck tremendous stiffness and stability, guarding against temperature- and humidity-induced bending and warping. Its 12”-16” compound radius ebony fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets is designed for highly technical lightspeed playing—more curved by the nut for comfortable chording, it flattens out as you move up the neck (with hand-rubbed oil back finish) for increasingly fast playing speed and wide bends without fretting out.
This particular guitar has been professionally repaired for a crack in the finish near the neck heel. The repair was done by very nicely by a Jackson-authorized refurbisher to ensure that there will be no issue in the future. It is perfectly smooth to the touch and we have included a close-up photo, though it is difficult to see. There is a cosmetic blemish on the neck pickup where the sheen of the plastic bobbin varies near the edge, there is a tiny white-colored spot in the clearcoat on the top of the guitar, and there is a small finish color discoloration on the back of the body against the control cavity. We have included close-up photos. Aside from what we have described, this instrument is in mint condition. It still has the factory plastic on the tuning machine housings and cavity covers.
How Does It Play?
We have given this Jackson a full professional setup to ensure it is playing fast and low without buzz. We check and attend to the truss rod, frets and fret ends, Floyd Rose height and tension, etc. We have it set up with string action of 5/64" on the low E at the 12th fret and 4/64" on the high E, without any buzz even when digging in or aggressively bending. For a more nuanced player, we can set it up even lower to your preference!
The Seymour Duncan Distortion and Distortion Trembucker (bridge position) humbucking pickups feature ceramic magnets for tight, high-output tones that hold up under heavy gain. In conjunction with a mahogany body topped with poplar burl, an ebony fretboard and a Floyd Rose 1000 series tremolo, this guitar is really a step up from other import guitars and can absolutely hang with the best of them!
A new hardshell case can be added to US orders for $95 or to international orders for $115.
