This guitar is ready for anything. Throw down your fastest fret finger acrobatics on the high strings, and it obliges with ease. Chug bone crushing riffs on the low strings, and it punches through with visceral force. And the best part? The midrange remains transparent throughout all your knob wiggling and amp settings.

The Bare Knuckle Mules sit particularly well in this build. Clean tones have a quick attack with a nice bloom that follows. There is an airy chirp to the top end to remind you that you are hearing a real piece of wood vibrating and resonating. Gain tones are thick but tight. As you turn the amp up dirtier, go ahead and work the volume and tone knobs anywhere from 3 to 10 to dial in the moment.

As mentioned above, the pickups remain transparent all the way through. The tone knob tailors the top end without making mud out of your signal. And the volume knobs do indeed “clean up” a rig set right. Even on cleans and moderate gains, this guitar has immense sustain.

The full gloss Pinkle finish is a real looker on the Tier 1 flame maple top.

How Does It Play?

The Knaggs “C w/ Slight V” profile pays homage to some vintage Gibsons and fills out the hand without becoming cumbersome. That slight V trims down the shoulders slightly in the cowboy chord area to make sure it feel accessible in all positions. I never actually thought about it being a V while playing it, but it does the job exactly as intended! And the string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12^th fret without a hint of buzz.
