The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
The Descendant Vibrato joins Mastery in the world of best-you-can-get aftermarket vibratos. The design literally has the strings descend through the tremolo plate, increasing the break angle and downward pressure of the strings over the bridge.
If you’re not sure a JM-style vibrato is for you, then you can just ignore this one and pretend it’s not even there. But if you do use it, you’ll find the action is perfectly smooth. And the trem arm does NOT fall out like on a traditional unit.
The bridge itself features Mustang-inspired barrel saddles, each individually intonatable. You can also adjust the height of the middle four saddles independently, giving you full control over your radius and setup.
For pickups, this guitar is loaded with a set of Lollar El Rayo humbuckers. The pickups have a warm, robust bottom end with a bit of a sculpted midrange to provide articulation usually only accomplished by a single coil. They are chimey but powerful, with the undeniable roundness to the attach that only a humbucker delivers. And fully hum-cancelling of course.
How Does It Play?
The string action on this beauty measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and even lower on the high E. The compound 9.5-12” fretboard radius allows even aggressive string bends without a hint of fret buzz. The neck profile is a temperately-slim C. It features nice shoulder and a sanded down finish along the back to keep it fast and smooth.
