What Does Josh Think?

I’m loving the Fralin Pure PAF’s in this thinline build. They sound thick but articulate. They clean up the midrange mud that some humbuckers exhibit in a semi-hollow guitar and a have nicely-tapered top end that rings round and bell-like.

All three positions are perfectly balanced. The neck is textbook for blues ballads, warm chord melodies and fat grunge riffs alike. The bridge leans traditional rather than aggressive, perfect for nailing classic rock rhythm tones. Yet it also sings with glorious sustain in the semi-hollow body for big single-note leads. The middle position exhibits immediate attack with a steely low end and chimey highs.

How Does It Play?

The neck starts off feeling like a perfect ‘60s oval C and starts to grow around the fifth fret to become a chunkier C toward the upper frets. It feels fabulous all the way up. The string action is a smidge over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and a hair below on the high E. The guitar plays effortlessly, and free of fret buzz.
