The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
First of all, this is a LIGHT one! Under 7.5lb complete with a Bigsby. And resonant just as you’d expect. The RB6 is a near-effortless guitar to play with its compact body shape and German carve running around the perimeter, which serves as a perfect arm contour where your picking arm comes over.
The Lollar Staple P-90 in the neck position really cashes in on the dry, woody tones of the mahogany body. It’s full and chewy with a good thump on bottom. Yet it maintains a pure articulation that keeps everything from blues lines to chord melodies clear and decisive.
The traditional soapbar P-90 in the bridge position has more of a rock ‘n’ roll soul. It features a complex midrange that wants to drive your favorite tube amp. Keep the guitar’s volume and tone at 10 for classic crunch tones. Roll back the tone a touch for vocal-inspired leads.
The middle position serves up a perfect blend of the two pickups. The warmth and fundamental-forward tones of the neck with the more gruff and midrange-rich sounds of the bridge pickup. The attack is immediate and sparkling, full-bodied and balanced across the entire EQ spectrum. Clean tones know no better position!
The guitar features a clean inverted Tuxedo color combo complete with neck binding and, of course, the Bigsby B5 as icing on the cake.
How Does It Play?
The neck pays homage to a ’59 round C, but with more manageable proportions. It starts off moderately near the nut and increases nicely as you work your way up the fretboard. The neck also sets up fast and low without any buzz. The string action straddles 4/64” at the 12th fret… measuring just the tiniest bit over on the low E and coming in under on the high E.
