Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
This JM6 looks absolutely stunning with its Pelham Blue finish, which has very minimal distressing for a clean and straight-from-the-closet look. Acoustically, it is balanced and resonant. And loaded with a Lollar Imperial in the bridge and mini humbucker in the neck, this is an extremely versatile workhorse of a guitar.
The Lollar Mini humbucker in the neck position delivers deep but articulate tones that make an amp sizzle as you dig in. It is sweet and somewhat Strat-like, with a touch more compression. It’s lively and makes for an incredibly clear neck position, as the lower register that stays tight when you dig in. Mix it in with the bridge for loads of chime.
The Imperial is always a favorite of ours in the bridge position of a JM6, adding in a nice midrange that sits well with a multitude of amps and overdrives. It's a very versatile pickup that can handle anything from country to hard rock with ease. Bookending the delicious midrange, it has a transparent upper register and a tight bottom end.
How Does It Play?
The early ‘60s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The string action measures hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret without any fret buzz. The contoured neck heel gives you smooth, easy access to the upper frets.
