What Does Ivey Think?
We love a Fano JM6 in Olive Green, especially with a blacked-out pickguard, pickups and knobs. With its tasteful medium distress and finish checking, this guitar isn't scared to be played and already has a nicely broken-in feel. This is the first time we've heard the Fano humbucker uncovered and paired with a P90, and we're really enjoying it!
The Fano pickups sound fantastic, and the uncovered version of the humbucker sounds really sweet in this guitar. There's a little more top-end with the nickel cover to dull it, so it has a little extra sizzle and slightly more output to our ears. The low end is tight and the midrange is fairly balanced, allowing for really punchy-sounding rhythm work and lead lines that cut perfectly.
The neck P-90 is clear yet warm, and has a really fun "chewy" feel to it. It compresses in a very natural way and allows notes to bloom, giving solos and arpeggiated riffs a healthy body underneath. It balances in output nicely with the bridge pickup. In the middle position you have a hollowed-out, sparkly clean tone reminiscent of a Strat in position 2 without as much quack.
How Does It Play?
This neck is fast! It’s a nicely-rounded C, so don’t confuse it with an Ibanez Wizard or something of that character. But is smooth and nimble nonetheless, with the finish sanded off the back. Entirely befitting of the beast. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E, without any buzz!
Weight: 6lb 15oz on Fano spec sheet. We weighed it in a few ounces heavier but regardless, it is light and resonant.
The Fano Custom padded gigbag is included.
