Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
If the standard Single Cut isn't your cup of “T”, maybe it’s time to check out the Fano TC6. This one features a classic 3-Tone Sunburst finish over an old-growth alder body loaded with Lollar P-90s. A really cool take on a few iconic designs of the 50's, without conforming to traditional options.
The piano-like resonance and added twang of the short Tele bridge give this guitar a great foundation for accomplishing some really inspiring tones. Playing through the Lollar standard wind P-90 in the bridge, there's a very strong and well-rounded midrange that sounds delightfully big and punchy. This pickup has a moderate output, full but not too hot, allowing it to work in different stages of gain with ease.
The neck position sounds are harmonically rich with a beautiful top end. The pickup placement is closer to the bridge than on most guitars of this body type, getting rid of some low-end mud and adding some snap. There's a little bit of Straty-ness when you dig in, but all with the added “body” of the P-90. When paired with the bridge pickup you get a middle position that's reminiscent of a Tele middle but with an extended frequency range and more 3-dimensional texture.
How Does It Play?
The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim but features healthy shoulders. For point of comparison, it is a bit more supportive than the Fender modern C found for years on their standard series. The contoured neck heel makes upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless. The string action measures barely over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and right at 4/64” on the high E without any buzz.
