Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
This RB6 not only struts a classic Shell Pink finish, but also a German carve body that fits very comfortably under your arm. Boasting creme knobs and pickup covers alongside a set of Lollar P-90 pickups and Tonepros wrap-around bridge, you couldn't ask for a better pairing of options. And weighing in just under 7 lbs, this guitar is sure to give your shoulder a break on those 4-hour gigs.
The Lollar P-90 in the bridge of this guitar is crisp and full, offering the perfectly-tailored high end that Lollars do so well. There's a subtle dip in the lower midrange near 500hz that really helps things sound clear and balanced. Gain tones cut exceptionally well without becoming thin and have just the right amount of that P-90 bite.
The neck pickup has a very nicely EQ'd low-end punch, sounding tighter than you might expect. Yet it still has the mojo you'd hope for in a warm neck pickup. Put all together, it has a sweet “sting” that pushes your standard Fender circuit towards sounding like a Dumble-styled beast.
How Does It Play?
The string action on this guitar hovers right around 4/64” all the way across at the 12th fret. There is no fretbuzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The neck is very reminiscent of a ’59 roundback, starting off moderate at the nut and growing with a nice taper towards the 12th that encourages you to dig in to those the upper frets.
