Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
The RB6 is a fantastic design by Fano, and is such a comfortable and fun guitar to play. The AVT-II TonePros bridge, Fano pickups and Alder body are always a great combination and the German carve body with some light wear looks just right. These specs paired with a 24.75" scale maple neck and fretboard make for one very versatile guitar.
The bridge position sounds are very unique to this guitar, and I love the texture it has. It's chewy in the lower register but balanced with a nice snap, and when digging in it pushes the amp in a very musical way. It's punchy with great clarity and not overwhelming in the high end. There's a subtle dip in the mids around 1k that helps this work with different styles of overdrive and stay pretty open throughout.
In the neck you get a nice blooming lower midrange with a sweet sizzle in the upper registers. This pickup compresses very nicely and the harmonic richness here makes just about anything you play on the clean channel sound like a mastered record. Between the shorter scale, wraparound bridge and maple fretboard, you don't have to worry about this position getting muddy.
And make note, this guitar weights just an ounce over 7lb!
How Does It Play?
The string action on this beauty measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and right at 4/64” on the high E. The compound 10-16” radius fretboard allows you to bend to your heart’s content on those high frets without any fretbuzz. The neck is a comfortably chunky C, with the finish sanded off the back for a smooth feel the whole way.
