What Do We Think?
If you've ever drank homemade moonshine out back at a black-tie event, this guitar might just be the one for you. Dressed in its "Tuxedo" aesthetic, it's Rock ’n’ Roll at heart with a set of Lollar standard wind P-90 pickups and some light relic work. Coming in at a little under 7.5 lbs, it won't even wrinkle your shirt if you have to get up and play a few with the cover band.
Fashion puns aside, this guitar really does sound and look great. The bridge sounds are crisp and full, offering the perfectly-tailored high end that Lollars do so well. There's a subtle dip in the lower midrange near 500hz that really helps things sound clear and balanced. Gain tones cut exceptionally well without becoming thin and have just the right amount of that P-90 bite.
The neck pickup has a very nicely EQ'd low-end punch, sounding tighter than you might expect. It has the mojo you'd hope for in a warm neck pickup, along with clarity and definition that often gets overlooked in this position. It has a sweet “sting” that pushes your standard Fender circuit towards sounding like a Dumble-styled beast.
How Does It Play?
Low action, no fretbuzz and beautifully polished frets. What more could you ask for? If you are into the numbers, the string action measures just 4/64” at the 12th across all strings. The neck is reminiscent of a moderate ’59 roundback. Round but not excessively chunky. The guitar actually feels very nimble under the hands.
