Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive.

The Lynx offers a lightweight alder or swamp ash body, hand-sanded and contoured to feel right at home. Set in the body is a rock-solid Gotoh Fulcrum Bridge with a steel block to provide fat tones with no tuning issues and a great-feeling tremolo response. Its fast-playing neck profile is still meaty enough to keep the guitar alive, and the Lynx offers a variety of pickup configurations, from SSS to HSS and HSH.

What Does Josh Think?

Talk about a vibrant guitar! And we’re speaking tonally. Even the clean channel will have overtones flying off the fretboard. Removing the magnetic pull of the neck pickup just gives you a little extra string resonance and creates something really special at the bridge pickup.

That pickup is a Lollar Imperial in its standard wind variation, with open Zebra coils. We wanted to keep as much of the energy going straight to the output jack as possible so we kept the controls simple with just a volume knob and a mini toggle. The mini toggle takes you from the normal coils-in-series wiring to coils-in-parallel. Like two adjacent single coils, and still completely hum-cancelling.

We’ve touched on the vitality of the overtones on this guitar. While you might not pick it up thinking you’re going to play clean, you’ll probably find yourself enjoying it a little more than you expected. Or a lot more. There is a beautiful shimmer and effortless sustain. Now flip the mini toggle to the coils-in-parallel setting. The midrange opens up and the attack gets a touch more immediate. Not quacky like the “in between” positions on a Strat, but with all the spank and clarity.

And gain tones? First of all, the bottom end on this guitar is just punishing. There’s something about the frequency it hits at. It is so big, so tight, so punchy. You don’t have to be playing especially loud to feel the air of the speaker hitting you in the chest. And yet it never muddies the tone, no matter how big it sounds.

The mini toggle works wonders through a dirty amp too. By removing midrange in the parallel setting, it will do a bit of “cleaning up” of your gain tones and really make an amp sparkle. And if you’re worried about not having a tone knob, just try rolling the volume back a sliver and make the amp do the work. You’ll have a lot more control over the color of your tone than you might expect, and all without the capacitor of a tone pot sucking on the output.

How Does It Play?

The neck is a slim C, very comfortable and very fast. The gloss on the back is knocked down for effortless movement. With its perfect fretwork and 12-16” compound radius fretboard, we were able to set the string action under 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and all the way down to 3/64” on the high E.
