Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
This RB6 in Fiesta Red is just an enjoyable guitar to play. The 24.75" scale length and Tonepros AVT-II wraparound make for a very snappy and slinky feel and tonality. The maple fretboard adds to this experience, an option not typically found on guitars of this scale although it definitely should be. Topping it off with a set of Fano's very own P-90 pickups, you'll be pleasantly surprised just how versatile this guitar is.
If you haven't had a chance to play through Fano's pickups, they've done a great job making a set that works so well in each one of their guitars. The bridge pickup has a very even response along the EQ spectrum, providing a crisp upper midrange along with a solid low end that stays tight. With some overdrive it'll do chunky rhythm parts just as well as some searing lead lines, and it doesn’t get shrill or thin when you go up the neck.
Moving to the neck position, you'll enjoy a deep low end and some sweet compression in the high end that makes those clean arpeggiated licks sound straight off a polished pop record. With some overdrive you can achieve some smooth and soulful blues licks with just enough bite to keep things present in the mix.
How Does It Play?
The German Carve on the body gives the strumming arm a nice break where it comes over the edge of the body. The neck is very reminiscent of a ’59 Roundback, starting off moderate at the nut and growing with a nice taper towards the 12th that encourages you to dig in to those the upper frets. The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and right at 4/64” on the high E. There is no fret buzz!
