Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
First of all, this guitar weighs a breezy 7lb 3oz. Fano always uses quality, resonant tonewoods but this is on the light side even for them. If you are looking for a lightweight left-handed offset, you’ll be hard-pressed to find better than this!
We spec’d the guitar with humbuckers and a maple fretboard to give you a perfect blend of warm humbucking tones with the quick response of maple. The voicing on these Fano humbuckers is robust yet articulate. The bridge position comes through rich and meaty, with a controlled top end. It can spank through a clean amp, but you’ll probably find yourself reaching for the gain knob on the amp to enjoy just how delicious it gets with the amp rocking.
The neck position features a nice punch and slightly compressed attack. It is big and warm, but the maple fretboard gives it wonderful enunciation nonetheless. Perfect for bluesy lead lines. The middle position exudes a bell-like attack and generous spank if you dig in. You can cop some really tremendous funk tones in this position! And it just as easily serves up a sweeping palette with broad-reaching EQ and crystal clear pick attack for effect-laden open chords and arpeggios.
How Does It Play?
The string action straddles 4/64” at the 12th fret… the tiniest bit above on the low E and below on the high E. There is no fretbuzz anywhere on the neck. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is easy in the hand and features supportive shoulders to thwart fatigue. The contoured neck heel makes the upper reaches of the fretboard a breeze to access.
