The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
Fano guitars are consistently resonant and lively thanks to their careful selection of old growth woods. This guitar is certainly no different. The pine body is acoustically very loud, and you can feel it resonating in your chest. The gold anodized aluminum pickguard and Bigsby vibrato may even be contributors to the shimmery tonal equation, as they do indeed add a bit of mass to the guitar. Nonetheless, the entire build weighs just under 7lb!
With all of the different pickup options that are available in the JM6, this set of Lollar P-90's has become one of our favorites. The standard wind in the bridge can go from clean, open sounding cowboy chords to mean and chunky pop-punk riffs depending on how you set your amp. It's articulate where it needs to be, alongside a solid midrange snarl.
The low wind neck P-90 is slightly scooped in the mids and cleaned up in the low end where other neck pickups might get muddy. It is clear and perfectly balanced in output with the bridge pickup. The middle position has a bit of Jazzmaster “cluck” but with more body underneath. It’s truly tough to choose a favorite position!
How Does It Play?
4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and even a touch lower on the high E. This guitar plays low and easy without a hint of buzz. The early ‘60s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The contoured neck heel is a nice touch when transitioning to the upper frets.
