Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
Every time we get a Fiesta Red guitar in the shop it turns heads, and this one is no different! This Fano JM6 looks killer with its tortoiseshell pickguard on top of the nicely distressed Fiesta Red nitrocellulose finish. Featuring a set of Lollar’s Imperial humbuckers, this guitar is ready for just about anything you throw at it.
The Imperial humbucker has become an industry favorite in the world of handmade pickups, and for good reason. It's a very versatile pickup that can cover an array of sounds ranging from vintage PAF, to tighter modern high-gain tones through the right amp. The bridge position has a full midrange that doesn't get honky and an upper midrange bump that gives it just the right amount of clarity to cut through a mix.
The neck tones are sweet and smooth without being dull. The neck position also gets that upper midrange bump, which keeps it big and clear. Even when playing chords low on the neck, there is great note articulation with a quick pick attack. When combined with the bridge pickup, you have a really magical middle position that's pianolike and three-dimensional, especially on a clean channel with some delay and verb.
How Does It Play?
The early ‘60s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The finish is sanded naturally off the back of the neck to prevent any nitro stick as your hands get moving. The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and under 4/64” on the high E. There is no fretbuzz.
