What Do We Think?
This stunning RB6T in Fireglow finish is more than just a throwback to yesterday, and it certainly won't let you down. With a Lollar P-90 in the bridge and Firebird in the neck, the tonal options this Thinline offers are some of the best from across the universe.
The bridge position sounds are big and crisp, pushing the amp really nicely if you dig in but revealing a nice dynamic range when played softly. If you're expecting this Ric-inspired outfit to be brittle and weak in the bridge, you would be mistaken. The Lollar standard wind P-90 has plenty of body and cuts exceptionally well when introduced to some overdrive.
The middle position sounds are just beautiful, very open and clear, blending the best of the two different pickup types without any unpleasant build-up of frequencies. There's a really nice compression when digging in that feels very natural and adds a pleasant squish to the feel and tone of the instrument.
Last but not least, the Lollar Firebird. It's become one of our favorite neck position pickups, offering a crystal clear high end with a round and warm lower register. When playing with some overdrive it has a really cool upper midrange sizzle, reminiscent of a Goldfoil but without the loose and ragged bottom end.
The acoustic resonance is really pleasing to the ear, with the mids sitting in a nice spot and the energy of the string movement being easily felt. It's worth noting as well that the neck has a stand-out piece of rosewood, dark with just a hint of a natural redish tone.
How Does It Play?
The late ‘50s roundback neck profile fills out the hand nicely and without any discomfort. It starts with a moderate depth of .860” at the first fret and grows chunkier as you move up to the 12th fret. The string action is barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and even under 4/64” on the high E. There is no fretbuzz!
