Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
It's hard to beat the looks of a Sonic Blue offset with a red tortoise-shell pickguard. With a strat trem and humbuckers? What a killer combination if you're for something a little more versatile than your average ‘Stang.
The Fano humbuckers sound just fantastic in this guitar. The bridge pickup tones are big and clear, with a tight low end punch and a slight bump around 2khz which helps it cut through. The midrange is tailored nicely, not honky or congested with overdrive. It handles both cleans very nicely also.
The neck has a very musical chirp in the upper register, providing stellar note articulation. The bottom end is round, warm and piano-like, but isn't overpowering or boomy. It blends really nicely with the bridge to create a beautiful, chimey and slightly scooped middle position.
How Does It Play?
The early 60’s-inspired C profile neck is temperately slim, but with a healthy shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and right at 4/64” on the high E. There is no fretbuzz.
