The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. We are an Alt de Facto dealer, so if this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
Name a tone and there’s a good chance this guitar delivers! Between a 3-way toggle, a push/pull on volume pot to engage the middle pickup, and a push/pull on tone pot to coil split the humbucker, there are 10 distinct tones immediately accessible under your fingertips.
And we couldn’t ask for more from the Suhr pickup in this build. The SSV humbucker in the bridge measures about 9K. It leans vintage but is round and robust in the low and middle registers. The top end is vibrant, which makes it a perfect pairing with the single coils in neck and middle. This is a very dynamic pickup that responds well to both the volume and tone knobs on the guitar.
The V60LP in the neck position is throaty but well-enunciated. Put the 3-way toggle in the middle position and you will find the perfect snap of the neck backed up by some extra punch and compression from the bridge pickup.
Here’s where things get really interesting: engage the middle pickup via the push/pull pot on the volume knob. With the 3-way toggle in neck position, you’ve got that quacky Strat tone going as you mix the neck and middle pickup (also a V60LP). This “in between” position is surprisingly open and chimey though, too!
Middle and bridge delivers some delightful Strat spank but with a bit of midrange honk rolling naturally off the bridge humbucker. Coil split the humbucker via the push/pull on the tone knob, and you will be in funk heaven.
The Gotoh 510T 2-point tremolo features a steel block, modern saddles, and a superb tremolo arm design. The arm is threaded on the inside and the has an adjustable collet to take out the play that plagues traditional S-Style trems.
How Does It Play?
Fano’s early ‘60s C neck is a nice medium profile with good shoulder and gentle taper from the nut to the heel. The string action on this guitar measures a superbly low 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E, without any buzz. The frets are dressed to perfection.
