Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
The Lollar Imperial pickups, alder body and rosewood fretboard are a recipe for a perfectly balanced tone. The guitar is not light, but it is phenomenally resonant. You might think of it as a Les Paul killer but with a 25.5” scale and Fender-inspired neck with traditional 1.65” nut width.
The bridge position Lollar Imperial is powerful and percussive. It cleans up nicely without loss of clarity as you roll back the volume on the guitar. The middle position has piano-like attack and beautiful sustain. Plenty of body, poise and balance. The neck pickup is warm and throaty, but with a nice chirp on top that keeps it distinct in a mix.
Finish checking on metallic finishes tends to look absolutely amazing, and the checking on this one is no exception. The guitar features a light distress in terms of dings and scuffs, but beautiful finish checking throughout. The fretboard is a dark, classy gem of a piece of rosewood adorned with pearloid dot inlays.
How Does It Play?
This guitar plays fast and low without fretbuzz. The string action is all the way down to 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E. There is zero fretbuzz. The contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless.
