Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
This JM6 is a glorious combination of specs, some very straight-forward and some a little more outside the box. The alder body is a mainstay of the JM6 build, balanced and resonant. Top the maple neck with a slab maple fretboard and you have a little extra snap and articulation under your fingers.
The pickup combination is as versatile as it is unique. The Lollar P-90 is absolutely scrumptious. It’s plush and a little spongy, but remains clear and responsive through the mids nonetheless. We love a neck P-90 with a maple fretboard, and this one does not disappoint!
The Lollar Imperial humbucker in the bridge position is more “taut”… full-bodied, crisp and punchy all at the same time. It relishes loads of gain, becoming very liquid with lots of sustain. But it sounds just as remarkable under light breakup and knows just how to dish out brisk, classic rhythm tones.
The middle position is more percussive, tempting you to play anything you might throw at a Strat but conveying a bigger, bolder voice in the process. Note attack is immediate and impactful. This works just as well for snappy funk lines as it does for drawn out, arpeggiated sonic landscapes.
How Does It Play?
The string action on this beauty hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret. A hair over on the low E, and lower on the high E. It’s a very nice player, with zero fretbuzz anywhere on the neck. The finish is sanded down on the back of the neck for a perfectly broken-in feel, and the contoured neck heel makes the transition to the upper frets nice and smooth.
