Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The MG6 model provides a full 25.5” scale length take on the classic Mustang, doing away with the intonation and low string tension issues that hinder the shorter scale design. The MG6 Oltre also features a 6-screw Gotoh 510T-SF2 tremolo with steel saddles and an adjustable collet that lets you lock in the position of the tremolo arm or leave it loose to hang out of the way, whichever you prefer.
The Fano P-90 in the neck position is rich and throaty. It captures the warmth of the alder body generously, while maintaining the P-90 snap that makes this type of pickup the perfect compromise between a humbucker and a single coil.
The bridge position is more transparent and pristine. It is beautiful for clean tones, reminiscent of the purity of a Tele but more punch and body. And this pickup can get a little aggressive when you dig in, which is perfect when you want to push an amp or overdrive pedal. Play with the tone knob to shift the vowel of the pickup downward and emulate a humbucker when desired.
The middle position has the immediacy of a good Strat, but without the out-of-phase quack. It is bold and snappy. When you want big chords to ring out with unspoiled clarity or arpeggios delivered with maximum precision, this is your position! The bottom end is deep but articulate, entirely supportive without getting in the way.
How Does It Play?
The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. We do a thorough check and make the occasional truss rod, nut or saddle tweak to make sure the guitar plays exactly to our liking.
