Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The neck position is fat and warm on the bass strings, with singing treble strings up top. The result is a depth that is marked by clarity rather than incoherence. Clean tones are rich and lush. It’s quite fun to add a bit of drive in the neck position too though, dishing out thick lead tones and chunky rhythm chords.
The bridge position is round, but incredibly transparent. It has some pretty stout output, so it loves taking your clean channel into edge-of-breakup territory. When cranking the gain, the bottom end is big and tight but the transparency remains intact!
The middle position has a nice snap, almost like the middle position of a Telecaster. It’s open and chimey when playing chords, crisp and punchy when playing country-style double-stops and chicken pickin’.
Some of the power of this guitar may actually be attributed to its weight. Measuring in right at 8lb on our scale, it doesn’t feel heavy but it does feel resonant. There are no “missing” frequencies when you give it a good strum. Up and down the neck, the response is even and balanced. However you choose to define it, this guitar is a real joy to play.
How Does It Play?
The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and a hair under 4/64” on the high E. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile features a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless.
