Every guitarist needs one single-coil guitar that delivers the perfect amount of bite and twang to cut through the mix—enter the Shabat Lion Standard. With an array of T-style pickups from Lollar to choose from and a feather-light body (ash, alder or pine) fitted with either a Gotoh three-saddle or modern six-saddle bridge, the Lion Standard offers incredible punch, sustain and resonance.

What Do We Think?

We love sugar pine Teles. There’s a warmth and an extra sweetness in the overtones. The Lollar Royal T in the neck position of this one takes queues from a Strat pickup in its wire gauge and construction. It is remarkably lush and full, but not muddy in the least. It has a bell-like midrange that maintains clarity even if you roll off the tone knob for more jazz-inspired textures.

The Vintage T in the bridge is full-on Telecaster, but with a fat low end. Even more so than the neck pickup, this one responds superbly to the full sweep of the tone knob. Dial in (or out) the twang as desired. As you dial up the gain on your amp, you can either enjoy the “rudeness” of the tone full up, or coax humbucker-leaning sounds by rolling it back. But it stays tight and full no matter what.

The middle position is gloriously open. Spanky, but not filtered. It covers a broad EQ spectrum with poise and balance, devoid of any big EQ spikes. This position will do magic to your sustained chords and crisp arpeggios, staying clear and vibrant even when laden with effects.

How Does It Play?

The neck is a medium C with full shoulders. That’s something Shabat always nails regardless of their neck profile. The shoulders are always full and supportive. The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12^th fret without any fretbuzz.
