What Does Josh Think?
In true Lambertones fashion, the Lamber’Tron set is incredibly full, open and jangly all at the same time. The three pickup positions each interject their individual voices in complementary ensemble. Turn each on or off in any combination for a total of seven variations. The neck is uncluttered and throaty, the middle balanced and defined, and the bridge delivers a glorious bark.
Mixing two adjacent pickups gives hints of Strat quack, but bigger and thicker. In fact, these positions are exceedingly rich and lush. And who said there’s such a thing as too much? Turn on all three to blend the individual nuances all into one tone.
Speaking of tone, let’s talk about the tone knob. I was thrilled to find that it has a smooth, gradual sweep all the way from 10% to 100%. Rolling back the tone knob tapers and rounds off the top end without disturbing the clarity of the midrange. You can conjure a variety of voicings along the way, all articulate and meaningful.
This GalaxyFlite sports a nearly-traditional rhythm circuit with its on/off toggle switch, low cut and high cut roller wheels. The only thing non-traditional is that it is active on all pickups. It’s surprising how often a subtle low cut helps when you have it at your disposal! I found it especially useful for coaxing more single coil-esque tones out of the Lambertones. This circuit really adds to the versatility of the guitar, letting you dial in an alternate EQ landscape that can be switched on at any time.
How Does It Play?
The string action on this beauty hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret without buzz. We love the feel of Shelton’s Medium Oval C neck profile. Very much a mid-60’s oval C, with nice shoulders and support yet just the right amount removed from the back to prevent it from feeling chunky. The back of the neck is finished in a smooth satin to prevent any stickiness.
