Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

Oh sweet, woody bark! Something that escapes production line instruments these days. So we proudly present this Fano PX6 Oltre for your consideration. Think if a vintage Les Paul and an SG had a baby, and you’ll get the idea.

The Lollar Imperials in their uncovered form give you a little more open top end than their covered counterparts, but in a very pleasing way. This subtle extension of the top end balances in equal measure with a chunky lower register. The midrange has a subtle bump around 2k Hz, with a nice wide Q. This gives it a thick, meaty middle register that stops short of becoming nasal.

The bridge position pickup features degaussed Alnico 5 magnets and handles gain extremely well, getting neither sloppy nor ice-picky. The neck pickup uses Alnico 2 magnets for a complementing, but less aggressive timbre. Once again, the open coils maintain great clarity through a variety of amp settings. The middle position is crisp and bell-like, really spectacular on a clean channel.

How Does It Play?

The string action measures just a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret, and a hair under on the high E. Fast and low without fretbuzz. The finish is sanded off the back of the neck for a smooth, effortless feel. With a 24.75” scale length and a moderate late 50’s round C profile (ballpark Gibson’s most recent take on the ’59 neck), this guitar is poised to be an instant classic in your collection.
