Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Does Josh Think?
This guitar is incredibly balanced. It has the ability to deliver thick, smoky tones on the plain strings while remaining clear on the bottom strings. Quite a feat, and something that stood out immediately. The Lollar P-90 in the neck position really capitalizes on that smokey flavor, but picking the wound strings closer to the bridge is just as delightly bell-like and crisp.
The bridge position is rich and smooth. Not as raunchy as some P-90 guitars. Something about the maple fretboard keeps the midrange from getting too much honk or snarl. It sounds beautifully neutral through a clean amp, fat and punchy with a healthy dose of clean. Perhaps a lot more EVH than you’d expect!
The middle position is tight and snappy, almost like an in-between position on a Strat but without the quack. It has plenty of “body” underneath and open expanse up top. Shimmer, sparkle, you name it. This position is also hum-cancelling, so a perfect place to load up on the effects and the volume swells.
The Gotoh 510T bridge is a superb piece of hardware that mixes vintage strat design with modern improvements. The tremolo arm features threading on the inside AND features an adjustable collar to make sure it is always snug and responsive. This unit will even do some good dive-bombs with ease.
How Does It Play?
This guitar plays fast and low. The string action measures just a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and exactly 4/64” on the high E. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue.
The back of the neck is sanded down smooth, ideal for players who find their hand gets sticky on the neck after playing for a while. And the contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless.
