Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
Oh sweet bridge position tones! If you enjoy the feel and aesthetic of a Tele but can’t quite bond with the traditional pickup set, we may have your answer right here. Starting on the bridge position, the tones coming off the Lollar P-90 are thick with just a tinge of twang. The clarity is there, but not the stringiness.
The low wind variant of the P-90 in the neck position gives you tones slightly closer to a single coil. It is still deep and expansive, but it cleans up any congestion in the middle register to ensure it rings clear and true. You’ll also note how the pickup is pulled about a half inch closer to the bridge than it would be on other guitar models. This improves the definition as well.
The blend of the two pickups is perhaps a bit woodier and more powerful on bottom than a standard Tele middle position. But it serves up a beautiful shimmer throughout the mids and highs. The string-to-string balance is remarkable, and the guitar delivers incredible vibrance across the entire fretboard without any weak spots.
Fano picked out a really nice 2pc Alder spread for the body of this guitar, showcased through a transparent Blonde finish. The guitar also features a matching headstock and rich Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
How Does It Play?
The string action on this beauty measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E, all without fretbuzz. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The finish is sanded off the back for an effortless, broken-in feel.
