The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
This guitar is sonically-balanced. Pick attack is present and articulate thanks to the maple fretboard—and that’s Birdseye for those of you looking. The 25.5” scale is borrowed from a Fender lineage, making this guitar ideal for folks who want a semi-hollowbody that feels a bit different than an ES-335. Also of note, the body is constructed of solid alder rather than laminates. Don’t fret, the guitar weighs just 7lb 1oz.
The Lollar Imperial in the neck position maintains some nice transparency; where a humbucker in the neck can sometimes be a bit muddy, this one is not. The bridge position has a punchy upper midrange that sounds great for clean and overdriven tones alike. The semi-hollow body adds a nice “acoustic” touch, with some extra air on top and depth on bottom when compared to the typical bridge tone recipe. The sustain is superb all around.
This guitar has a gorgeous Ocean Turquoise metallic finish that changes in appearance from a deep blue to a lighter green depending on the light. It is difficult to catch in photos but quite seductive in person!
How Does It Play?
The string action at the 12th fret measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string, and right at 4/64” on the high E. There is no fretbuzz, and the frets are superbly dressed and polished. The moderate C neck profile neither leans too far to “modern” nor towards fat and chunky. It sits comfortably in the middle with a good shoulder and nice taper as you climb the fretboard.
