The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
This Fano SP6 Alt de Facto with mahogany body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard covers some serious tonal ground! The Lollar OmniTron P-90s are wound specially for Fano and are voiced just a little more crisp and open to give you tight bottom, rich chime thru the mids and a single coil-like top end.
The neck pickup is equal parts woody and percussive. It sounds big yet never muddy. It has a subtle scoop in the midrange that keeps your low string riffing firm and articulate, and puts a nice chirp on the upper strings. This pickup in the mahogany body yields a remarkably warm yet articulate neck position.
The bridge position is Strat-esque, really beautiful for shimmering clean tones and light to medium gain transparent overdrives. Cranking the amp up? Roll back the tone knob a hair for some expressive, vowel-like lead sounds.
How Does It Play?
The SP6 features a moderate example of a late-50s chunky C neck profile. It tapers nicely from the first fret to the neck heel, giving cowboy chords an easy grip and encouraging you to dig in as you progress up the fretboard. The string action comes in nice and low, measures right around 4/64” across all strings at the 12th fret without any buzz.
