Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The Lambertones Crema humbuckers deliver a bold attack and medium output. They have more clarity than you find in your traditionally-voiced humbucker, but without a loss of depth and body. They stay true to the warm bottom end we love in a humbucker. But the midrange is a little tighter, and the top end a touch more refined.
The neck pickup allows you to play into the middle strings without loss of definition. Your pick attack will be big and round, yet you’ll find clarity between the strings that will tempt you to spend some extra time here before moving through the other pickup positions.
The middle position sounds very similar to the same on a Filter’Tron-loaded guitar, but perhaps a little less “clucky”. The clarity is phenomenal, but again there is a depth and body behind each note. The guitar has a marvelous “acoustic” quality here.
The bridge pickup seizes on the more compressed midrange character of a humbucker, but adds nice extension on either side as well. It is crisp and punchy for rhythm tones, both clean and dirty. Tone knob on the guitar all the way up will keep things tight and snappy, while rolling it back a touch will smooth things out for a more traditional PAF-styled humbucker sound.
How Does It Play?
The neck profile is a moderate “early 60’s” C that leaves enough on the shoulder to support the hand and prevent fatigue, while affording a thin enough profile for blazing fretwork. Speaking of fretwork, Fano does an impeccable job dressing and polishing their frets and this one is no exception. The string action settles in at a nice low 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E. No fretbuzz. The body is nicely contoured front and back to round out a superbly-comfortable playing experience.
