What Does Josh Think?

Oh my goodness! I expected my first impressions with a maple fretboard Banshee to be a bit bright, maybe even brash. Boy was I wrong. Yes, it’s punchy. And it has a gorgeous shimmer across all three pickup positions. But it has roundness and depth as well due to the Spanish Mahogany body. So I stand corrected. The best word I can think of to describe it is “sweet.”

The Wolfetone P90’s have never sounded more vibrant and open… and they’re already a pickup that we love with the standard wenge Banshee fretboard configuration. They always have loads of character; a throaty midrange in the neck, a defined bite in the bridge. But the maple takes them to a new level of 3-dimensional. Every note of a chord rings through. From warmth in the neck to sparkle in the middle to a nice grind in the bridge, it’s all there.

They say not all that glitters is gold. But this one sure is! It’s hard to capture on camera but the mix of metal flake sizes causes the light to dance with every movement of the guitar. Doug found a beautiful cut of flame maple for the fretboard. All around, from tones to appearance, this is going to be one hard Banshee to beat.

We can add a Bigsby to any Kauer Banshee with a tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece using the Vibramate system, just like Doug used to do. He has stopped offering Bigsby's because they have become difficult to get ahold of. But we have them in stock ready to install, and Doug has authorized us to put them on for any customers that want one!

How Does It Play?

The C profile neck is nice and full, but comfortable as always. Measures 0.88” at the first fret and 1.02” at the 12th. The PLEK work (and fretwork in general) is superb. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E, all without buzz.
