Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
Fano’s P-90 pickups are voiced just a little thicker and richer than the offerings from some other mainstay brands. We have found to them to be the perfect complement to the 24.75” scale length and TonePros wraparound tailpiece on the RB6. The neck position has a slightly spongy attack that summons vintage-flavored tones; warm and dry on bottom but just the right bark on top.
The bridge position is thick but enunciated. It dishes out rocking rhythm tones with plenty of meat on the bone and just enough bite to keep them distinct. Single note leads are full, round and vocal. The top end has a beautiful shimmer that rolls off before it can become unpleasant.
The middle position adds a bit of snap to the recipe. It is particularly well-situated to delivering your clean tones, highlighting an open midrange while allowing the depth of the neck pickup and the shimmer of the bridge to shine through. The German Carve on the body gives the strumming arm a nice break and even adds a little weight reduction. This is definitely a guitar that will feel light on the shoulder all gig long.
How Does It Play?
The string action hovers right around 4/64” all the way across at the 12th fret. There is no fretbuzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The round back 50’s-inspired C profile fills out the hand nicely, with a good taper that starts moderate in the cowboy chord area and really encourages you to dig in on the upper frets.
