What Do We Think?

This is one for the player who wants to control it all from the guitar and the fingers. The amp is remarkably touch-sensitive. You’ll find edge-of-breakup tones easily attainable on the clean channel, just as you’ll find near-clean tones achievable on the overdrive channel… all depending on how you play the volume and tone knobs on your guitar.

Starting with clean tones, a Strat will deliver that quintessential Dumble tone with the Treble and Rock/Jazz switches in the up position. Don’t be afraid to roll back the bass knob to tighten it up; you’ll still have plenty of depth even while the mids and trebles are present and immediate. Think John Mayer or SRV cleans.

Pushing the preamp volume delivers some “vintage” inspired breakup, especially with humbuckers. Find the sweet spot on your guitar’s volume if you like to control the breakup from there. Bumping the mid switch saturates the amp quicker as well, while plugging into the FET input puts some real sizzle right at the front end of the amp. Treble booster anyone?

Looking to get your single coils really singing, or take your humbuckers to more modern levels of gain? The overdrive channel is your tool. It will go all the way to Jimi Hendrix fuzz-like tones when you dial it up. With the cascading channel design, you have lots of room to play with the relationship between the two gain stages to find just the right mix for you.

Whatever tones you settle on, the dedicated overdrive channel volume allows you to balance your clean and dirty volumes. The included footswitch (complete with locking 7-pin DIN footswitch cable) controls both the channel selection and an additional preamp boost that can be used on either channel for an immediate bump in gain and volume.

This Bombshell Overdrive 50W head features a Royal Blue Suede covering. We have it paired with a matching Amplified Nation 1x12 oversized cab loaded with a Celestion Heritage Series G12-65, complete with a large check grill. Both head and cab are included in the listing, along with power cable, footswitch and 7-pin DIN footswitch cable.
