The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
This SP6 was cut from a good, dry piece of swamp ash! The guitar weighs under 7.5lb even with its substantial brass-saddled Tele bridge. It delivers the immediate attack, strong bass response and lively top end you would want and expect from this species.
The Lollar Low Wind P-90 in the neck position is a little more transparent than your average neck P-90, and the perfect complement to the Vintage T in the bridge. The transparency in the midrange is supported on either side by a strong, springy low end and by a sweet, soothing upper register. There is a lot of dynamic range as well as room for you to EQ to taste.
The Lollar Vintage T in the bridge gives a slightly darker take on a Tele tone than your more traditionally-voiced Tele pickups. It has a little more output and some nice grunt and growl in the lows and mids. The middle position delivers a nuanced version of the “in-between” positions on a Strat. It’s a little spongy and a little quacky. And yet it is more harmonically-rich in the lower midrange than your average Strat tones.
This guitar is situated to cover a lot of tonal territory and truly raises the creative juices to the top. While you’ll have no problem emulating some classic tones from LP Jr. to Telecaster, you’ll also find plenty of space to conjure voices all your own.
How Does It Play?
The action is absolutely beautiful, low without any buzz. String action measures precisely 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E. The RoundBack ‘50s neck profile encourages you to dig in a little with plenty of support and zero fatigue.
