The Kauer Banshee Deluxe retains the same neck thru construction that makes the Banshee so unique, but adds a maple top for a distinct sonic flavor. Measuring ¼” thick in the middle and 1/8” on the wings, it imparts a bite and tightness not heard in the standard Banshee and pairs especially well with humbucking pickups. Nonetheless, the body maintains the thin dimensions, comfortable contours and lively response of its namesake. What Do We Think?

This baby’s got some bark! Our tech is riffing Gimme Three Steps while we write this up and it really sounds classic Les Paul behind that Maple cap. It’s dry and precise, like the best old Gibsons. The Wolfetone P-90s are medium output, letting the guitar sing through the amp with a clear midrange and full bottom. The low end in the neck position is just magnificent, yet retains a purity that keeps it from being muddy.

Clean tones are good and woody. Dirt tones are thick and chunky. The guitar contains a nice sweet top end that tapers off early. The bite is there, but it’s smooth and pleasant even in the bridge position. Think Malcom Young tones. It also feels amazing in the hand, with the C profile starting moderate at .86” at the first fret and building to a good chunky 1.03” at the 12^th.

How Does It Play?

Doug PLEKs the necks on his guitars and the results are undeniable. The action hovers around 4/64” all the way across at the 12^th fret and feels just right. Fret ends are dressed perfectly and this guitar certainly received the attention it deserves in every way.
